They rest on the bottom clip or stop, for example when a tank has dried.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA magnetic reed switch is used to open and close float switches. The reed is enclosed in a glass tube that is cemented into a stainless steel stem with epoxy. This illustration shows how a magnet can be used as a switch to open or close circuits by moving closer or further away from a reed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe magnet will touch the contacts if it is close enough. Current can pass through them if they touch. The contacts become demagnetized and break the circuit if the magnet is removed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA float switch has a magnetic reed switch that is hermetically sealed within a stem. Most often, this stem is made of plastic or stainless steel. A magnet is enclosed in the float.
